Your quest for a quality rudder control ends here

What is it?

A flight sim/gaming rudder controller in the form of an accurate replica WW1 rudder bar (based upon surviving Sopwith drawings), also providing full-house wheel braking. The unit is constructed around a large, substantial base board, emulating a cockpit floor.
As well as providing the look and feel of a WW1 rudderbar, an integrated pedal system forms a braking control, driving either the wheelbrake axis or separate left/right brake axes, thereby supporting all aircraft brake types. For any flight sim software not supporting an axis for wheelbrakes, button emulation is provided.

How are brakes operated?

With the rudder operating as expected, downward pressure controls braking. With the rudderbar centred, pressing downward operates wheelbrakes, whereas pressing with the rudderbar deflected, takes control of corresponding left/right brakes if available.

How do I obtain this controller?

ArtyBar is a DIY construction project with all aspects documented in this site and all requisite materials readily available. Where braking functionality is not considered important, a simplified construction option yields a rudder-only unit, upgradeable should needs change.

Making it pay

Once you have a working controller, recover your initial outlay by constructing for your envious friends, perhaps less capable than yourself; it could form a lucrative sideline. Conversely, if this job is beyond your aptitude or resources, you should be able to find a local constructor to accommodate you. As these units are impractical to ship, we encourage local construction around the world.
In recognition of the development work undertaken and the support available, all we ask is a token gratuity of UKP 10 for each unit constructed by anyone.
